This seminar will focus on introducing attendees to the most popular evidence based form of couples counseling developed by John Gottman and his wife Julie Shwartz Gottman in the 1980s to assist couples in distress . The Gottman's method is a very practical, fun based and structured counseling approach that supports couples across all economic, racial, sexual orientation and cultural sectors. The principal goals of the Gottman method are to disarm conflicting verbal communication, increase intimacy, respect, empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship. This seminar will explore the 9 components of healthy relationships also known within the practice as the ‘Sound Relationship House’. You will also gain an understanding about the four dysfunctional communication patterns called the ‘four horsemen’ by Gottman that can destroy a relationship. .
