The British are coming! The British are coming! All men between the ages of 16 and 60 are summoned to drill in preparation for attack! Ye Olde Lebanon Towne Militia Co. is taking over the Welles-Shipman-Ward House property to drill on Saturday, June 4th from 1pm to 4pm as the Historical Society of Glastonbury (HSG) presents: Militia Day! In addition to tours of the barns, sheds, lovely Connecticut River Valley ?mansion?, and a cooking demonstration in the grand fireplace, a train band will drill in the yard. Ye Olde Lebanon Towne Militia Co. will be in full costume portraying a local militia unit, something in which every able bodied man, ranging from young teen to seniors, was required to serve. The ?milish? will be clad with muskets, cartridge boxes, hats, and canteens. Enjoy an afternoon of watching a battle unfold before your eyes, musket firing demonstrations and artillery demonstrations. The militia is anxious for new recruits to join in! Volunteers are welcomed. Also on hand will be a merchant from Big Bear Trading Company of Rhode Island. Here is your opportunity to view and/ or purchase goods that would have been available to people living in New England (especially along the coast) in the 18th Century. This action packed and fun filled afternoon kicks off at 1pm on Saturday, June 4th. Watch history come alive, and be part of it! Admission is $5 per person. Parking for the event is available at South Church diagonally across from the Welles-Shipman-Ward House or at St. Augustine?s just around the corner on Hopewell Street (there is a wide clean path thru the woods from St. Augustine?s to the Welles-Shipman-Ward House). Visit www.hsgct.org, Facebook, or Twitter for more information and the most current updates on this event.
