The Historical Society of Glastonbury hosts its 6th Annual Tag Sale in the Tobacco Shed The Historical Society of Glastonbury (HSG) will be presenting its annual tag and consignment sale from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday September 28th, 29th and 30th. Both will be on the grounds of the 1755 Welles-Shipman-Ward House, 972 Main Street (Route 17) in South Glastonbury, where the ambiance is relaxed and peaceful. The tag sale will be held in and around our reconstructed 1870 tobacco shed while Eastbury Barn will be the site of the consignment sale featuring larger vintage and antique pieces of higher value. The event is rain or shine and admission is free. There will also be an early bird special on Friday, September 28th between 7:00 am and 8:00 am. Admission to the early bird event is $10. The sale gives HSG members and friends an incentive to both clean out their homes and contribute needed and helpful household items to others in the community. In turn it allows for the consumer to reuse, recycle, and “be green” and sustainable while decorating and furnishing one’s home, finding unique presents and reducing the Town’s trash costs. If you would like to donate and/or consign items please stop by the tobacco shed at the Welles-Shipman-Ward House between the hours of 10:00am and 4:00pm Tuesday, September 18th through Monday, September 24th. You may also call the Historical Society at 860.633.6890 or Judy Harper at 860.633.4821 to make alternative arrangements. Funds raised from the sale supports the mission of HSG, which is to educate through the preservation and promotion of Glastonbury’s extraordinary historical legacy. In addition to owning, maintaining, and operating several historic properties, HSG sponsors numerous public events; publishes books, brochures and news articles; and maintains an exceptional research library. Glastonbury fifth graders visit HSG twice a year for experiences integrated into their Social Studies curriculum. The upcoming free Farm Day, Sunday September 16th, 1:00pm-5:00pm, celebrates Glastonbury’s farming history with fun and educational activities for all ages. As a non-profit, HSG funds these activities solely through the support of members, business sponsors, foundations, donations, grants, and fund-raisers such as the annual tag and consignment sale. Limited parking is available on site, with overflow parking at St. Augustine’s Church, 55 Hopewell Road. A well-maintained, short path leads from the church parking area to the WSW house. Please be advised, however, that you will not be able to park at St. Augustine’s on Sunday. For more information, contact the Historical Society at 860-633-6890 or HSGlastonbury@sbcglobal.net, or check the website www.hsgct.org.
