Jonathan Luiz Appointed as Successor Town Manager
The Town of Glastonbury is pleased to announce that Jonathan Luiz has been appointed as the next Town Manager, to follow the retirement of long-tenured Town Manager Richard J. Johnson. Mr. Luiz’ appointment was confirmed by Town Council action at their regular meeting on February 14, 2023.

Last year, the Town of Glastonbury contracted with Strategic Government Resources (SGR) to manage the recruitment process for a successor Town Manager. Over the past several months, SGR conducted a broad and rigorous recruitment search, resulting in a pool of highly qualified applicants from across the nation and Canada. Following this extensive interview process, three final candidates participated in a community ‘meet and greet’ as well as final discussions with the Town Council, Town management staff, and Glastonbury citizens. Through this process, Mr. Luiz was ultimately identified as the strongest candidate for the Town Manager role and officially appointed this past Tuesday.

“It was a bittersweet moment, formalizing the employment of a new Town Manager and ending the tenure of a gentleman who has served this Town with distinction,” said Council Chairman, Tom Gullotta.

Jonathan has served as Town Administrator for Weston, CT for the past five years. Prior to this role, he held other positions in Connecticut municipalities, including Assistant Town Manager for the Town of Windsor, Town Administrator for the Town of Columbia, and Administrative Services Coordinator for the Town of Canton, CT.

Jonathan holds a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law, and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Emory University. He has also attended the University of Virginia’s Senior Executive Institute and is a Credentialed Manager from the International Association of City/County Management Association (ICMA-CM).

In response to the formal appointment, Jonathan commented, “I am grateful to have been appointed Glastonbury’s next Town Manager. This is a dream come true.  I look forward to serving the community, working for the Town Council, and collaborating with staff.”

Per his contract, Mr. Luiz will take office on Friday, March 31, 2023. Please join us in welcoming Jonathan to the Town of Glastonbury organization and community.
