Town of Glastonbury Launches Grant Program for Local Farms
The Town of Glastonbury is now accepting applications for the 2024 Farm Assistance Program, a one-time grant program that will provide financial assistance to eligible farmers who were negatively impacted by the significant weather events of 2023.
Effective May 31, 2024, eligible farmers can apply for reimbursement grants of up to $10,000 to help sustain or grow their business. “Over the past year, our state has endured some extreme weather events that have negatively impacted our valued farming community,” said Glastonbury Town Manager Jonathan Luiz. “The Farm Assistance Program is designed to support our local farms that lost crops, faced unforeseen expenses, and experienced financial hardship as a result of the adverse weather conditions.”
Earlier this year, the Glastonbury Town Council appropriated $220,000 of American Rescue Plan Act funds to support this program. The Town recently presented its proposed program at two community workshops with the goal of soliciting input from the farmers themselves. Glastonbury staff considered the suggestions contributed through these forums and the final program seeks to address the diverse needs of local farms. Eligible farm businesses can apply for one-time financial assistance to reimburse a variety of operational expenses including payroll, utilities, rent/mortgage payments, capital improvements, and equipment.
Interested farms are required to submit a letter of intent by no later than July 1, 2024 to be considered for a grant award. The application and supplemental documentation requirements can be accessed through the Town website at www.glastonburyct.gov/FAP. Complete application packages will be accepted through October 31, 2024 and awardees will be selected on a rolling basis as early as July. Applications must include all required documentation and should be hand delivered to the Customer Service Center at Glastonbury Town Hall during regular office hours.
The Town is pleased to offer this program and support Glastonbury’s expansive farming community. Questions regarding the Farm Assistance Program can be directed to Town staff at grants@glastonbury-ct.gov.
