St. Luke’s Church is showing the original 1920 silent film of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, starring actor John Barrymore, with a live performance by organist Jeff Howey on a 1920 Austin pipe organ on Saturday, October 29th at 7pm at the church (915 Main Street, South Glastonbury). Tickets for the show can be purchased at the door: $10 adults, $7 students/seniors and a non-perishable donation to the town food bank. Proceeds will go to benefit a school for elementary students in the village of Kamathudugu in Sierra Leone that was built in 2010 using sustainable earthbag technology by the villagers themselves under the guidance of the charity Shine on Sierra Leone. Your donation will help provide books and supplies for the children. This story of split personality features Dr. Jekyll, a kind and charitable man who believes that everyone has two sides, one good and one evil. Using a potion, his personalities are split, creating havoc as his alter ego, Edward Hyde, is born. Accentuating the eerie plot will be a live pipe organ performance by Jeff Howey. A graduate of Hartt College of Music, Jeff has been teaching and creating music since 1972. He has taught in schools and is retired from Hamden Hall Country Day School after 25 years. He is currently the choir director at Bethany Lutheran Church in West Hartford and he also teaches at JC Music in Meriden. At intermission, delicious home-made treats will be available for purchase.
