JOIN HUNDREDS OF YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS AT FARM DAY ONE OF THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF GLASTONBURY’S MOST POPULAR ANNUAL EVENTS Admission is Free! Kick off Glastonbury’s 325th anniversary by celebrating Glastonbury’s rich agricultural history. The Historical Society of Glastonbury is pleased to present its 18th annual Farm Day on Sunday, September 16th from 1:00 pm-5:00 pm at the Welles-Shipman-Ward House, 972 Main Street, South Glastonbury. This fun-filled, family-oriented day includes intriguing colonial-era trade demonstrations such as weaving, dress making, a cobbler at work fashioning shoes and other colonial crafts. Fun for your children and grandchildren too! Attendees can try their own hand at rope making or flower arranging, using dried flowers from our onsite garden. Visit our petting zoo and meet various farm animals, including horses, chickens, rabbits, and goats. Kids can help pick carrots, beans and onions from the kitchen garden and watch tobacco being harvested. Games and activities include bobbing for apples, a contest to “guess the weight of the pumpkin”, sack races, checkers, stilts, bean bag toss, rolling hoops, bowling, a scavenger hunt, English and French (tug of war), and leap frog. Enjoy tours of our historic treasure-filled barns, sheds, and the Welles-Shipman-Ward House, a 1755 Connecticut River Valley mansion. As an added treat, Big Bear Trading Company will be onsite with an array of historically-accurate merchandise i.e., goods that would have been sold along the Connecticut River in colonial times. As always, admission and all activities are free. General parking is at St. Augustine Church, 55 Hopewell Rd from which there is a path to the Welles-Shipman-Ward property at the rear of the parking lot. Handicap parking is at the Welles-Shipman-Ward property.
