The Rise of Senior Bullies: Recognizing and Responding to Bullying Among Older Adults takes a closer look at something we don’t always like to talk about—bullying among older adults. It explores why bullying happens, how to recognize the difference between intentional bullying and behaviors related to dementia or unmet needs, and what professionals can do when they encounter it. Most importantly, the presentation looks at these interactions through a person-centered lens and offers practical ways to create environments where older adults feel respected, included, and safe.
Heather Hitchcock, CDP is a gerontology professional with more than 40 years of experience working with and advocating for older adults. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Gerontology, is a Certified Dementia Practitioner, and is a certified trainer in Person-Centered Dementia Care and Habilitation Therapy. Heather has volunteered with the Alzheimer’s Association for more than 30 years, serving as a Walk Director, team captain, Community Educator, and support group facilitator. Her work focuses on improving the quality of life, dignity, and well-being of older adults through education, person-centered care, and innovative approaches to aging.
