Walk, Talk, and Dinner Presented by the Historical Society of Glastonbury Begun in 1836, The Hopewell Mill remains represent one of many artifacts illustrating Glastonbury's early manufacturing history. This area will be the site of the Historical Society of Glastonbury's 2015 May walking tour. On Monday, May 4th, your guide and Glastonbury native, Dr. Brian Chiffer will lead you on a walk and talk of the area surrounding the former Hopewell, Glazier and Slocum mill site, (Glastonbury's newest park site) discussing the area, the industries, and people who made this unique area come alive. Hikers will explore the remains of the early foundation and dams that once powered the mill. The tour will be approximately ninety minutes followed by an optional dinner and a short slide show thru history at Olympic Pizza. This one time hub of finished woolen manufactured clothing is a historic explorer's delight. You'll have a whole new appreciation for an area you already know and enjoy. Attendees will meet at 6:00 pm at the mill site on Matson Hills Road just past the grange pool going east. The walk, talk and pizza dinner is $20. Walk alone $10. Funds go toward the Historical Society of Glastonbury's education and preservation programs. So reserve your spot (860.633.6890), get out your hiking shoes and get ready to hike your way thru the history of the Glastonbury-Rocky Hill Ferry and Connecticut River in South Glastonbury.
