CIBA PAC Sets $4,000 Goal for Scholarship Program

East Hartford, CT—The Parent Advisory Council (PAC) of the Connecticut IB Academy (CIBA) recently launched its 2023–24 scholarship fundraising drive. The PAC’s goal is to raise $4,000 for the nonprofit’s scholarship fund.

PAC President Martha McKerley said the drive was off to a promising start. “As of November 12, we’ve raised 20% of our goal through parent donations and a significant gift from a local business, Connecticut Feline Medicine and Surgery.” McKerley said she hoped other local businesses would join Connecticut Feline in supporting CIBA students.

“The quality of CIBA’s education speaks for itself,” McKerley noted, pointing out that in recent years CIBA has sent graduates to Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Middlebury, Princeton, Stanford, Williams, and Yale. “CIBA prepares our students to continue their education at the highest collegiate levels. We started our scholarship program as a way to make paying for that education a little bit easier.”

For this year’s scholarship campaign, the PAC’s board hopes the local business community will give generously.

A public magnet school operated by East Hartford Public Schools, CIBA was recently ranked the #3 high school in Connecticut by US News & World Report. CIBA seeks to cultivate a diverse community of learners who are not only academically accomplished but committed to the core attributes of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, including deep curiosity and self-reflection, open-mindedness, a willingness to take risks, and care for others.

The PAC, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, supports CIBA’s efforts throughout the school year, hosting social events for the school community, providing refreshments for school events, purchasing supplies for classrooms, and providing scholarships to graduating seniors each spring.
